Trimwork

Carson and I originally wanted to do all stained wood trim and doors, but after we saw how expensive it was to do solid wood doors, we decided to take the "Parade of Home" approach! One of the homes we visited during the parade had stained wood trim with painted doors, and it actually looked pretty neat! This cuts down on your costs tremendously, since painted doors are fairly cheap, and we could still get the look of stained trim without all the expense.

Since we wrapped the window corners, we only did stained trim at the bottom of each window. This also helps give it a clean, simple look.

Closets! This was a fun project. We were able to design the shelving in all the closets, and to be honest, we didn't have a clue what we wanted, but so far it turned out well!

This is a shot from the master bedroom. You can see how the stained trim will add a nice contrast to the painted doors. True it is an acquired taste, but we both like it!

Guest bedroom closet. You'll also notice that we didn't do the wood trim in here. To save on costs, we did painted trim inside the bedrooms, and to make the transition flow, we will use a dark paint that matches pretty close to the stain color so the flow still feels smooth when you enter a room.

Office closet. I had him build extra long shelving for file drawers and binders. Hopefully that will work out ok! Like I said, we had no clue what we wanted in the closets!

One of the many pattern options for our railing. We both really like the iron rods over the wood ballisters, and neither of us are fans of the round posts, so we are doing square posts with iron rods. If you look closely, you can see that the iron rods have either single or double twists on some of them.

Piano room! We really love the double stacked crown molding in here. If this wasn't a first home and our pockets were deeper, we would have done crown molding throughout the whole house! However, that gets expensive when it's stained trim instead of painted... so we decided to simplify!Another shot of piano room crown molding.

Our 4ft by 8ft solid wood front door that we got an awesome deal on! It has a speak-easy hole, all though I will never use it. This was an extra door that came to the lumber yard as a mistake, which is how we got such a great deal on it, and it already had the iron grid on it. We LOVE the iron grid on front, but I'll never open the box to talk to visitors.... that would be funny!

Pantry! Finally enough room for food storage and much more!

Glass door to our backyard from the family room. If we would have been smart, we would have ordered this with the blinds inside the glass... since we didn't think about that before, we have now re-ordered the glass insert with the blinds inside for better privacy.
