Christmas Cards

An Update

20 WEEK ULTRASOUND
I've decided it takes a lot of guts to post pictures of yourself getting bigger each month, but I've had several requests to do so, so I am being brave and officially posting my first pregnancy pictures. Here I am at 20 weeks (January 9th) right before we headed to the ultrasound appointment.
I've been hesitant to post these, which is why it has taken me a couple weeks, but I have come to terms with the pregnancy weight gain and realize it is a required and natural process for a healthy and beautiful baby. It's never fun to step on the scale and see an increase, but I do believe every pound is worth it to start a family. Each number up reminds me of the little budding babe inside of me getting healthier and stronger. Yeah for food and eating for two!
So here's the update on the pregnancy so far:
1st trimester: Really not that bad! Sure I had the usual nausea most women get, and most food smelled or tasted weird, but I only lost my cookies probably a total of 12 times through the entire three months, which is really good from what I've heard! There were only a few days I actually stayed in bed most the day, but other than that, I was able to work on our house and meet with contractors still to finish things up. I feel so lucky that I didn't have any severe problems or sickness. Huge blessing! Food Cravings: I didn't really crave much, but grapefruit, cottage cheese, and sometimes a Whopper from Burger King always sounded digestable.
2nd Trimester: Well I am currently 22 weeks and feel GREAT! My doctor gave me the "green light" on all exercise, so after I got over the nausea stage, I got back into my usual routine of 5x a week. We have a Rec Center here with great aerobic classes that I've been enjoying. I do Water Aerobics and Yoga on Mondays and Fridays, Circuit Training and Pilates on Tuesdays, Spinning/Power Abs and Yoga on Wednesdays, and Pump'n'Flex on Thursdays. Food Cravings: Banana Breakfast shakes, toast, oranges, and hard-boiled eggs.
So we went to our ultrasound, and guess what the baby is.................. IT'S A MAYBE!!! Well the doctor thinks it's a girl, but she couldn't tell for sure. The imbilical cord was between the baby's legs for part of the ultrasound, so the picture above is the only shot she got that shows the likelihood of a girl... However, the baby was super active and the ultrasound was only 5 minutes long, so I left a little discouraged. I wanted to say to my doctor, "Spend two more minutes with us and find out for sure if it's a boy or girl! The baby's movin' like crazy in there!" But of course she was in a hurry and said we would have to wait until next month to be sure....
Here's a picture of the baby's face. The white spot is the eye and you can see the outline of the ear under that. I still feel like I'm trying to read a foreign language when I look at these ultrasound pictures, which is why I am hoping to get a 3D one done when I'm around 8 months... but they're not cheap so we will see..
This is supposed to be the two hands up by the baby's face, but I have a hard time seeing it clearly... The next ultrasound though will be with another doctor. I've decided to switch doctors because the current clinic I go to doesn't practice all the normal rules and cuts some corners... For example: I've never peed in a cup, I've never been measured, I've never had my uterus size checked, and I don't know if she even checked everything she was supposed to at this last ultrasound with how short it was. We are also driving 1 1/2 hours one way to my doctor visits, and there are some new doctors that joined our insurance network this year that are only 15 minutes away, which will make things much easier..(Especially when I go into labor!)
So here's to a "MAYBE" baby! We haven't really celebrated yet because we still don't know for sure, so hopefully in the next couple weeks we will know! I've thought it was a girl for a while now, but it's hard to pick colors or buy clothes until you have the official sex decided. My doctor did say the baby was 1 lb 11oz, which I guess is a pretty nice size at 20 weeks, which means I probably need to slow down the eating! YIKES! Let's hope I don't have a 10 lb 12 oz baby like my mother did with me!

Ravioli Birthdays
We went down to Price, UT a few weekends ago to hear my sis-in-law's homecoming talk and celebrate some January birthdays. Here are some of the highlights from the trip.
HOMEMADE RAVIOLI! Oh it doesn't get any better than this! My mother-in-law is quite the chef, and since there's a lot of Italian blood flowing through this family, she has spent a lifetime cultivating the crafts of homemade italian cuisine....delicious! From the noodles and sauce, to the inner mixture, it's all made from scratch. This truly is a "labor of love" on her part because it's not an easy recipe and time consuming! I have yet to brave it! She started this tradition several years ago on my father-in-law's birthday, and has continued it ever since. He gets ravioli that tastes better than any restaurants attempt for his birthday dinner-- and we all get to enjoy it too!

Grandpa Gus always enjoys every gift he gets. We also celebrated Devin's birthday, but my camera died before I got a shot of him.

Baby Parker trying solid foods!Car Sold, Not Stolen
It's nice to have your vehicle purposely missing (aka selling your car), instead of having your locked car with supposed security system stolen (that happened to us a couple summers ago).. so this is a nice change of pace for us! Carson and I have been wanting to get an all-wheel drive SUV for the Wyoming winter roads and to make the traveling back and forth to Utah a little safer--especially since the backseat will soon have a baby. Our bishop's wife has a little side business where she will email your advertisements, real estate listings, job openings, cars, etc. to the hundreds of people she knows here in our area for only $5 bucks! The crazy thing is that most the time, it works! People have sold their homes, cars, furniture, and several other things through her! Since she grew up in our hometown, she knows almost everybody here which really gets the word out fast for ads. We had her email out an ad for our honda, and the next day we got a call on it, and then a few days later it was sold! CRAZY! So now we have one car, which means I get the privilege of getting up with Carson every morning at 4:30 am to drive him to Rock Springs by 5:00 am so he can then car pool again up to work. I then pick him up in the evening as well. It really hasn't been that bad, and I guess it only serves me right since he gets up at 4:30 everday and I get to enjoy my sleep... now I get a little taste of what he goes through... and will go through for the rest of his working life.. yuck.
Anniversary #3
Carson and I celebrated our 3rd Anniversary on December 30, 2008. We bought a The Swedish Beauty Is Back!
On December 27, 2008, we all enjoyed a little piece of Sweden back in the United States! My sister-in-law returned from her mission! She served in Stockholm, Sweden and was an all-out, go-getter, full-throttle, 110% effort missionary for 1.5 years. It's been great having her back!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Maybe I should have done what I've seen many other bloggers do, where they post a possible haircut idea and ask for opinions FIRST..... well it's too late for that and the hair is already GONE! My sister Krys is a hairdresser and I take full advantage of her awesome skills each time she comes out... so for Christmas she fixed me up!

Well it's too late anyway... I've had several people ask me why I cut my long hair and if I miss it, probably because they liked it better long... but the truth is I have mousy thin hair, and once it gets that long, it just looks nasty all the time because it's so thin. Trust me-- if I had thick hair, I would love to leave it long, but I decided I couldn't pretend any more that I had thick, beautiful hair... so off it went and that's probably how it will stay for a long while... Besides, long hair is WAY out of character for me... I've always had it pretty short, I just let it grow out because I don't trust anyone else to do my hair--my sister really is THAT amazing at doing hair that it's well worth the wait. My hubby says he likes both ways, but who knows the real answer.. men are so scared to tell the truth sometimes... The end.

Christmas '08!
We were able to spend some time with both family over the holidays and had a great time. Carson's parents spent Christmas in Sweden this year to pick up his sister who had just completed her mission, so we decided to spend Christmas Eve/Day with my family, and then enjoyed a few days with his family after his parents/sister had come home. Carson had to work the day after Christmas, which made things a little tricky with the bad snow storms. Cheers to him for being willing to drive back and forth to maximize the amount of time spent with family... I am seriously so lucky. He left Christmas afternoon and it took him more than 7 hours to drive home (when it normally only takes 4 hours) because the weather was so bad. He then went to work the next morning and drove another 5 hours that afternoon to come back and be with family. (Atleast it was only an hour more the second day!)
CLOWARD CHRISTMAS '08:
Stockings 08: Instead of drawing names for sibling gifts, we decided to do stocking gifts! There was one stocking per sibling/couple/family and a $10 limit for each. You would not believe the creativity and imagination put into all the gifts! It was so much fun!
A few of the many favorite stocking gifts I got on camera. Here they are:
1- The "Lime-Stuffed Green Olives" from my Dad's stocking. Of course it made the rounds and everybody who was brave enough tried one... Since I'm pregnant, I opted out, but Carson went for it!
2- The most favorite toy at the cabin! I don't even know what you call this thing, but it's a hit with all the kids and even the adults! You can make an imprint of anything and it will stay! Here's the funny face Carson pulled for display.
3- BOOGER CANDY! Yep you heard me right! My sister always finds the most outrageously cool and creative trinkets/toys/candies/food to put in everybody's stockings. (She's the one that gave my dad the green olives.) In our stocking, there was a box of "Booger Candy" for Carson! On the box it says in big print that it FEELS and TASTES like boogers...yuck! Carson actually said that it didn't taste that bad... kind of like a sour patch. Don't worry, that's only a candy in his nose, not a real one...
My dad always makes Christmas morning a fun adventure for the grandkids. They went on a "Santa Hunt" to see where he had left the presents. All the kids followed Grandpa and tippie-toed throughout the whole cabin until they came to the last room......
The Dance Room! On the count of 3 they opened the door and found the Santa stash lying in the middle of the floor!

I sneaked up on my parents and caught my mom kissing Santa Claus! 
Uno dos tres... the three Cloward sisters! Oh how I love them too! It's rare for all three of us to be together since Krysti (middle one) lives in Kentucky. However, she was able to fly out for Christmas which is always a bonus the whole family loves! We just wish we could see more of her!
And it wouldn't be a true "Krysti" visit without her incredible cooking! She spoiled us rotten and made us her famous authentic chicken enchiladas with a specialty green tomatillo sauce... it's the real deal! Everything from scratch.

Family work project--little ones included! Moving wood/coal is a tradition for us! Everytime we get together, we spend a few hours replenishing the fuel piles so the cabin can stay cozy and warm. We make a human train and it gets done in no time! Much faster than my parents trying to do it alone! It's also a fun way to teach the kids the power of working together.
My Great Uncle passed away a few days before Christmas, so in the hustle and bustle of the day before Christmas Eve, we rode up to Ogden and provided the musical numbers for the funeral. After that, we scurried around to do last minute Christmas shopping/errands before we headed to the cabin!
POLLASTRO CHRISTMAS '08:
Carson's family has one of the coolest Christmas traditions I have ever seen. Every year on Christmas eve, they take turns hitting a pinata starting from youngest to oldest. It is always a blast! When the pinata breaks open, you don't find your typical taffy and bubble gum candy... instead you find a pair of new socks for everybody, chapsticks, a chocolate orange, a life-savers story box, a new card-game, and much much more! It's the best part of Christmas at the Pollastro house.

We gave to Melissa and Devin this year, and I decided to make them a book of all the posts from their blog this past year. It was a lot of fun to put together and quite easy to do. I am hopefully going to start on my own "blog to book" process from last year soon. You can go to www.heritagemakers.com to make your own book.
Cali was so excited to have Aunt Brittany home from her mission!
So I guess this is what brothers do for fun.... the older one that weighs twice as much and is twice as tall jumps on the younger one's back and tries to brake it! Luckily neither of them were hurt, but the rest of us had sore sides from laughing so hard.
Playing with new baby Parker was also a Pollastro Christmas highlight this year.
CLOWARD CHRISTMAS '08:
Stockings 08: Instead of drawing names for sibling gifts, we decided to do stocking gifts! There was one stocking per sibling/couple/family and a $10 limit for each. Christmas Decorations
I never realized just how much money can be spent on Christmas tree ornaments and decorations to keep the holiday spirit happy and alive in your home... thank goodness for hand-me-downs and Walmart!
The star on top of our Christmas tree is from Sweden. My sis-in-law just got home from serving her mission there and sent all of us Christmas stars both years as gifts. I don't think she had ever seen one on top of a Christmas tree before... usually they are hung in the window with a light bulb put inside for all to see, but thanks to my creative husband, he just wrapped the paper star around our cheap, smaller Walmart star and it worked out well!
The few decorations are hand-me-downs which I'm grateful for so we can have a little bit of christmas cheer in our house. Thanks to our Provo neighbors for the stair decorations...
And also for the table decorations...

I sorry I'm slow at this blogging thing... I'm still trying to catch up from our construction phase! Yikes! I promise I will get some updated pictures of the inside soon... I've first got to get caught up! Until then, here's a peek.
This is the make-up counter we had our cabinet guy build for me in the Master bath. This way I can keep all my beautifying junk out of the sink and out of Carson's way. I know it's a little spoiled to have such a nice feature, but it came as part of the deal. Plus I think Carson enjoys having his sink/counter space back.
This is a view of the other wall where we have a "his" and "hers" sink with the tall linen closet in between.

The tile is done! We chose a dark metallic tile for the foyer and kitchen area. I think it's beautiful, but I don't know if I would do it again... it's really hard to keep clean-- it shows EVERY little speck of dust or dirt.
Here's the kitchen cabinets on the way to getting assembled. If you look at the back wall, you can see that the middle cabinet is black. We decided to go with a two-tone look and have them staggered.
Here's a better view of the foyer tile. You can see the metallic and brown streaks better.
Everywhere else we did a travertine-looking tile. This is much easier to clean and doesn't show ever spec of dust or dirt. Hallelujah!

This is a view of the other wall where we have a "his" and "hers" sink with the tall linen closet in between. 
Here's the view to the right as you walk into the bathroom.
This is right at the door entrance. You can see the make-up counter to the left, sink area to the right.
The tile is done! We chose a dark metallic tile for the foyer and kitchen area. I think it's beautiful, but I don't know if I would do it again... it's really hard to keep clean-- it shows EVERY little speck of dust or dirt.
Here's the kitchen cabinets on the way to getting assembled. If you look at the back wall, you can see that the middle cabinet is black. We decided to go with a two-tone look and have them staggered.
Here's a better view of the foyer tile. You can see the metallic and brown streaks better. 
Everywhere else we did a travertine-looking tile. This is much easier to clean and doesn't show ever spec of dust or dirt. Hallelujah!
This is the entry way from the garage. One area we STILL need to grout. (maybe this weekend?)
