Since Carson and I decided to do the excavation work ourselves, that included the preparation for the flatwork. This is a BEFORE picture of what the higher half of our basement looked like with the plumbing and raidon piping set.
After ordering several tons of road base and gravel, Carson and I worked our little tails off to try ande get it ready for the flatwork. This Saturday was another one of those 14 hour ones, and we definitely felt it by the time we were done! Carson would scoop the road base from up above with the back hoe and then carefully dump it over the side of the foundation wall.
We would then shovel and rake it out even across the floor. We needed about 8 inches of road base, so it was a long process and a lot of shoveling, but well worth it!
Ahhhh the finished result on the first half of the basement. Only one more half to go!

Hey, our county in Michigan is at high risk for radon too. (See the post I wrote about radon at http://hostetlers.blogspot.com/2008/04/have-to-get-out-of-housewell-place-of.html) We have a sump pump system for pumping out water around the foundation but that also does double duty as they have a radon system hooked up to the black pipes too. Right now its a passive system (just running a pipe through the house to the roof) but they put an extra electrical outlet in the attic in case we ever need to make it an active system and install an in-line fan. Cool. And way to go on the damp proofing. You are amazing.
